Goodluck Juma - news from South Africa’s Ikusasa School of Cookery
June 2012: I am delighted to be able to announce that Goodluck Juma, our first graduate from the Ikusasa School of Cookery and a refugee, has now successfully been repatriated to his native Tanzania and reunited with his parents after 11 years.
At the age of 12 Goodluck left home in Tanzania with just the clothes on his back. He was promised a future in South Africa but this did not materialise as anticipated and he found himself alone and destitute.
Fortunately he was taken to a place of safety and received an education which led to him being chosen for a course at the Ikusasa School of Cookery – a project supported by the Chaîne’s charitable association, the Association Caritative de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs (ACCR).
With the international cookery qualification he gained from the school, Goodluck Juma was given the chance of a bright future. This is already proving to be the case, as not only has he happily been reunited with his family, but he also has a job at the Kilimanjaro Hotel in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
