The Chaîne was established in Kuwait in April 1982 with an inaugural dinner held at the Kuwait Hilton Hotel, as part of an initiative taken by the Hilton Group which wished to establish Bailliages across the Gulf region.
This inaugural dinner was presided over by Grand Chancelier/Président Jean Valby. The first Bailli Délégué was Chei Mutoh, owner of a Japanese Kei restaurant.
Apart from a small break during the Iraqi invasion in 1990, the Bailliage of Kuwait has remained active throughout its 30 years and continues to expand with membership having grown steadily from its initial 25 members.
We celebrated our 30th Anniversary in the Arraya Ballroom at the
Courtyard-Marriott Hotel. Günter Albert, Member of the Conseil
d’Administration from Monaco, presided over the ceremony as the official
representative of President Yam Atallah who had sent his best wishes to
us all.
As well as the inductions and promotions in the presence of
distinguished guests and many of the diplomatic community, Mohamed
Najia, our Bailli Délégué since 1984 and a Member of the Conseil
Magistral, was presented with the Officier Commandeur award for his 30
years of membership. It was a worthy recompense for his long standing
commitment and valuable contribution to the Chaîne.
Besides the distinguished guests, also present were many Hotel General Managers, who in turn, were shown appreciation for their support and commitment in hosting outstanding Gala dinners and producing the highest standards of gourmet meals.
After the Induction Ceremony, we enjoyed a fabulous Caribbean dinner. Highlighting the theme, the creative menu of fruity and spicy flavoursome dishes presented in a contemporary style was complemented by the eye-catching and attractively-decorated ballroom.
It was a wonderful evening in the true spirit of the Chaîne and thus the perfect celebration of our 30 years.
Soumaya El-Azem, Chargée de Missions
